The Stranglers banda de 4 miembros desde Reino Unido, formados en 1974 hasta hoy día, abarcan varias épocas musicales siendo más conocidos dentro de la New Wave.... Entre sus canciones más conocidas destaca la sinfónica Always The Sun, Golden Brown con piano antiguo y muy buena voz, No More Heroes que según la Guía Esencial del Punk y la Nueva Ola nos comenta: "... o la sencilla pero excelente y clasicísima "No More Heroes", extraída como single de su segundo álbum y sin duda lo mejor que hicieron nunca. El sonido del grupo, áspero y crudo en sus primeros tiempos, se fue dulcificando en los primeros ochenta..."; como curiosidad The Stranglers no fueron una banda exenta de polémica, siguiendo un poco más con la guía: "...Así, su primer álbum,editado con notable éxito de crítica y público en 1977, era un hábil mosaico de influencias diversas que se benefició, por cierto, de la actitud bronquista del grupo, lo que propició no pocos escándalos; a saber: revuelo generalizado ante algunas de sus blasfemas letras, críticas por la presencia de chicas haciendo strip tease en sus conciertos, agresión del bajista Jean Jacques Burnel (cinturón negro de kárate) a un crítico por contraste de pareceres a propósito de una reseña no demasiado positiva, arrestos varios por desórdenes públicos...." Según Nick Saloman compositor, cantante y guitarrista de The Bevis Frond: "...lo formé en el instituto, en Londres, en 1968. Éramos tres los componentes y tocábamos en clubs para jovenzuelos haciendo versiones de Cream, Hendrix, The Doors, Blue Cheer, etc. Los tres teníamos 15 años y éramos realmente malos. Más tarde, tras haber tocado en un montón de grupos sin éxito en todo tipo de pubs y clubs, decidí seguir solo. Comencé grabando en casa con un 4-pistas y seleccioné lo mejor para editar un álbum..." dando lugar a "Miasma", un buen ejemplo del "háztelo tu solo" tan llamativo de los músicos independientes..., en la canción Maybe hace todo, toca todos los instrumentos e incluso se corea así mismo consiguiendo un sonido nos transporta al interior de un garaje, nada fácil de encontrar, cantada con estilo sobrado, guitarra cortante... un Lo-fi de lujo (Lo-fi (del inglés low fidelity) música realizada con medios de grabación de baja fidelidad. En esta sesión me decidí a colocar esta foto de sus comienzos antes de que el éxito desvirtúe un poco.... ¿Quién no ha pinchado una canción de The Smiths? es casi obligado, bien porque la pida el público, bien sea un recuerdo o porque lo pida la situación.... por estas o más causas son por las que suenan tanto, lo que les sitúa en uno de los mejores grupos de su época; buen sonido del guitarrista Johnny Marr (segundo por la izquierda) en la canción Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others describiendo muy fiel el sonido The Smiths tan aclamado por sus fans.
Quedarse con una canción es muy difícil, There Is A Light That Never Go muy conocida, es atípica, toda la canción parece un estribillo y mantiene al oyente pendiente nada menos que 4 minutos, todo un logro; el final fantástico adornado por el sonido The Smiths la hacen merecedora del primer puesto que nunca falta en un recopilatorio.

Sea Wolf: si hubiera que buscar un ejemplo de independencia musical bien podría ser este grupo con Alex Brown Churh (foto) a la voz y a la guitarra.... Se van haciendo cada vez más un hueco en la música a base de talento, prueba de ello es You're A Wolf, con su buen videoclip un trabajo bien hecho, que irá ganando adeptos sin duda, el éxito será cuestión de tiempo. MxPx se atreven con una versión de a-ha: Take on Me éxito de los 80, se puede apreciar la transformación a un rock garaje; Sugar Ray con Under The Sun destaca: guitarras, voz y melodía. Luego dos canciones de Melampyre y Mylo de música ambiente y electrónica; los conocidos Smashing Pumpkins que con 1979 refrescan esta sesión. Me he decidido a poner algo independiente español Elodio Y Los Seres Queridos con al himalaya un final que sorprende de violín y buen ritmo. Termino con Hoobastank con su conocido éxito The Reason.
